| The World Swooping Association is the World’s largest and most progressive organizations dedicated solely to the sport of swooping. The sport of swooping includes canopy piloting, blade running & ground launching competitions. The WSA is committed to these sports worldwide and provides guidance to its members around the world on matters such as competition, judging, coaching and other areas of development of the sport. Members of the WSA committee, along with members of the United States Parachute Association, were responsible for delivering the new sport of "canopy piloting" to the International Parachuting Committee/Fédération Aéronautique Internationale in 2003. |

Swooping is defined as
follows: Swooping is a sport where aerial athletes (parachutists) jump from an aircraft or launch themselves from a fixed object and fly high performance parachutes at high speed over the ground, a body of water or down a mountain. Unlike most other parachuting activities the action of "Swooping" takes place at ground level. Members are defined as the Pro Tours, Amateur circuits or canopy pilots (a.k.a. swoopers) and represent a country, nation or territory, as recognized by the WSA. In addition, members are also any international swooping or parachuting organization, as recognized by the WSA. Swooping disciplines recognized by the WSA: Distance- Swooping as far as possible through a defined course. Accuracy-Swooping through a defined course and landing within "accuracy" zones. Speed-Swooping as fast as possible through a defined course. Team Speed- Swooping as fast as possible through a defined course as a pair. Freestyle-Executing "freestyle" maneuvers while swooping across a body of water. Blade running-Swooping through a slalom style course down a hill or mountain. |
